1. Keep the initial dressing dry and do not remove for 24 hours. After this time you may change your dressing, unless otherwise instructed by Dr Mansfield.
2. Prepare a clean area for your dressing change and have all the items you need available before you start.
3. Always wash your hands before and after changing your dressing.
4. Carefully remove the old dressing. Use any remaining Triclosan body wash and/or clean water and a clean gauze or cloth to gently clean the surgical wound.
5. Gently pat the wound dry with another clean gauze or cloth. Make sure the area around the wound is dried well so the new dressing sticks down.
6. Cover the wound with bandaids or other suitable waterproof dressings you have available. Duoderm or Comfeel is a good waterproof dressing that can stay on your wound for about 7 days.
7. Keep your wounds covered - leaving wounds open to 'air' is not good wound care.
8. Depending on the location and type of surgery you've had, there may be movement restrictions which will be explained to you on follow up visits.
